Multiple User Interfaces: Multi-Devices, Cross-Platform and Context-Awareness by Ahmed Seffah,
Today s communication systems consist of a bewildering array of devices and technologies. Mobile phones, PDAs, personal computers, corporate servers, Internet sites, even wearable devices all of these compete for our attention and require us to interact with them in different ways. A Multiple User Interface (MUI) helps with this variety of communication systems and devices by offering a coherent, integrated user experience across platforms. A MUI manages and coordinates services provided to the user through multiple devices and platforms. In addition, it adapts the view of the information to the computing platform in use. The following questions and more are addressed in "Multiple User Interfaces: What kinds of design methods are needed for building MUIs?How can we enable users to customise a device? How can the customisation of one device be reflected on all of the other devices available to the user? What is the best way to deal with device-specific constraints while assuring maintainability and cross-platform consistency of interfaces? How can we build interfaces that dynamically respond to changes in the environment, such as variations in network connectivity, user location, ambient sound and lighting conditions? The authors, who represent a wide range of research expertise in both industry and academia, introduce design and development frameworks for multi-device, cross-platform and context-aware systems. These frameworks are valuable to researchers and practitioners in usability and software engineering, and to anyone interested in the problem of developing and evaluating MUIs. Designers and developers, students and educators will find this book useful for itsapplied and theoretical content, supported by well-established HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) methodologies.

Semiconductor Devices: Physics and Technology by S. M. Sze,
This eagerly-anticipated revision offers more than 50ew or revised material that reflects the multitude of important recent discoveries and advances in device physics and integrated circuit processing. The book offers a thorough introduction to physical principles of modern semiconductor devices and their fabrication technology. Readers are presented with theoretical and practical aspects of every step in device characterizations and fabrication, with an emphasis on integrated circuits. The material is divided into three parts: the basic properties of semiconductor materials, emphasizing silicon and gallium arsenidethe physics and characteristics of semiconductor device bipolar, unipolar special microwave and photonic devicesthe latest processing technologies, from crystal growth to lithographic pattern transfer Each chapter is presented in a logical manner enabling readers to learn all important devices from a single source. Plus, the book covers historical developments of devices and technology in the last 100 years. Readers gain a sound perspective on the past and a foundation for projecting future trends.

PCI multimedia audio device - PCI multimedia audio device is commonly used to represent unknown sound cards in Windows device managers, when there is no device driver installed for it. This problem is usually encountered when and operating system is first installed, or re-installed.

Sound module - A Sound module is an electronic musical instrument without a human-playable interface such as a keyboard, for example. Sound modules have to be "played" using an externally connected device.

Sound-powered telephone - A sound-powered telephone is a communication device that allows users to talk to each other with the use of a handset, similar to a conventional telephone, but without the use of external power. This technology has been used for many years as emergency communication on ships to allow communication between key locations on a vessel when power, including batteries, is no longer available.

Sound dosimeters - A sound dosimeter or noise dosimeter is a device used to measure an individual's exposure to possibly damaging levels of environmental noise.
